A cold shower will cause a robust release of a hormone called norepinephrine which is associated to mood and can help fight depression. Norepinephrine also helps to block the production of a key inflammatory molecule called TNF alpha. This helps to reduce inflammation in the body and may ultimately alleviate some of the back pain we experience.
